Library Books

From now on, we have  library slot on Tuesday afternoon. Every Tuesday, if you bring your library book in you will have the opportunity to change it. Please note, this is not the reading book you change with Mrs Francis on a Thursday.

Golden Broom Glory!

YES! Congratulations Year 4 on winning the Golden Broom. I am delighted that we have the Golden Broom. Lets keep our cloakroom tidy and this broom in its rightful place!

On a slightly different note our blog is full because it is better than some blogs and because of all the wonderful things that have been put on it! Sadly, that means for the time being there will be no posts, but we are working towards a solution.

Carnival!

As part of our Brazil topic we have been looking at the annual carnival that takes place in Rio de Janeiro. We have been making our own Brazilian style headdresses.

Mr Crabtree was feeling so generous he bravely/madly (delete as appropriate) decided to allow children to use the g word. That’s right- glitter!

In class, we have been considering how we should behave and act responsibly in school and on school trips. Each table came up with 5 golden rules and wrote them down on whiteboards. Children then had the opportunity to look at each others ideas before writing their top 5 in their books.

We then thought about how we should act and treat people with respect. With the help of a rap the children created a poster in their tables with the ‘Dos’ and ‘Don’ts’ for being respectful. These were then presented to the class.

Maths

On Tuesday, we played a decimal based game in class. Children were given a whitebaord with a number on it. They had 10 questions to work out what the number was. However, the only answer the rest of the class could give to help them was ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Obviously, peeking was strictly prohibited!

Internet Safety

Next week is internet safety week. In preparation for this we considered which behaviours we would want to show online to others. To do this, half the class sat on chairs in a circle facing outwards and they were pretending to be at home on the internet. The other children were given a card that allocated them a behaviour. Some were positive and some were negative. These included ignoring, angry and comment on their clothes. They kept their behaviour to themselves and had 10-15 seconds to get that across to the person they were facing. They then rotated round so everybody in the chairs experienced each behaviour. We then discussed how the person on the chairs felt when these positive and negative behaviours were demonstrated. Can you guess from the images what behaviours the children are showing?

In the ICT suite we looked at several scenarios where negative behaviours had been shown and what we could do.

Spelling Journals

Today I have a look at some of the fantastic work that goes on in spelling journals as part of Read, Write, Spell. Here are 3 examples of brilliant work. Unfortunately, not all of them are the right way up and I cannot rotate them and save the changes.

Maths Roadshow

Yesterday, Year 4 and Year 5 were fortunate that Tapton came in to deliver a maths roadshow. There were a vast array of practical maths challenges for the children to complete in pairs of varying degrees of difficulty.

Science

On Friday we finished our experiment investigating the effects of different drinks on coins and egg shells and linking that to how these drinks effect your teeth. The children eagerly pulled out the egg shells and coins from the water and coke…

It was thirsty work and the experiment helped inform the choice of drink!
